The head of the Dubai Blood Donation Center, Dr. Mai Raouf, said that “the authority is moving towards turning all blood donation buses into green soon.”

Raouf explained to «Emirates Today» that the engineering department in the authority initiated the implementation of the project, within the plans of smart development and transformation in all services, to eliminate many of the negatives that were associated with the use of diesel in the operation of buses and blood transfusion devices of the center. She continued: «All devices have been replaced inside the new blood transfusion bus, to work with generators that derive their energy from the sun, away from the noise, concussions and environmental and audio pollution in the traditional buses, which in turn exposed the employees to risks during their work period, as all the devices became without noise, including It has air conditioning for the bus. ”

She stated that the development of the bus was carried out in cooperation with the Department of Laboratories and Genetics in the authority, and it reflects the Authority’s orientation to support innovation and environmental safety. She revealed that the Dubai Donation Center collected more than a quarter of a million blood units within five years, noting that the employment of modern technologies contributed to the increasing number of blood units collected, and the global credits and achievements it had achieved.

She stated that the center succeeded in collecting 53 thousand and 150 blood units in 2019, 51 thousand and 953 units in 2018, compared to 50 thousand and 601 units in 2017, in addition to 49 thousand and 223 units in 2016, 48 thousand and 296 units in 2015.

The annual increase in blood quantities was attributed to the increased awareness of the local community about the importance of blood donation, the presence of mobile buses for blood donation, in addition to the adoption by the Center of smart applications that contributed to facilitating blood donation procedures through the application of “my blood”.

“The annual increase in the number of blood units collected by the center is also due to the increase in the number of blood donation campaigns, reaching 676 campaigns in 2017, and 746 campaigns in 2018, compared to 830 campaigns in 2019.”
