The director of the Environment Department at Dubai Municipality, engineer Alia Al Harmoudi, told «Emirates Today» that Umm Suqeim’s beaches witnessed the highest percentage of ambulances and rescue cases, recording 166 cases, followed by Al Mamzar beaches, with 48 cases, while Jumeirah’s beaches achieved the lowest percentage of rescue requests.
She pointed out that the number of rescue cases in the night swimming beach from sunset to 12 from midnight in Umm Suqeim the first, reached six cases.
Al-Harmoodi stated that the nationalities of the shipwrecked are numerous and included 55 nationalities, and the Indian and Pakistani nationalities occupied the highest percentage of drowning cases, as the number of drowning cases of Indian nationality reached 52 cases, and the Pakistani nationalities 45 cases, followed by the Egyptian nationality with 20 cases of drowning, while the proportions varied slightly between the other nationalities .
She explained that the weekend days (Friday and Saturday) witnessed the largest number of drowning cases, at 50.9%, while other cases were dispersed over the rest of the week, and by close proportions.
She emphasized that Dubai Municipality has worked to apply the highest levels of security and safety on all public beaches, which are approved by international bodies, by providing an integrated rescue and safety system, which included building and equipping modern marine rescue units, according to the best international standards and practices applied in this field, and providing 38 platforms Rescue, including 11 main rescue platforms and 27 subsidiaries, also provided an integrated rescue team, including 103 rescuers, trainers and supervisors, who were distributed on public beaches.
She explained that the municipality supervises the training of rescuers on a regular basis, qualifying them to implement all rescue and first aid operations, and dealing with emergency cases, to ensure the safety and security of beachgoers.
It is noteworthy that Dubai public beaches obtained the international accreditation for the blue flag program for the season 2018-2019, in order to meet the international standards required to achieve in the field of beach planning, especially environmental education information, water quality, environmental management, safety, services, rest facilities, and providing protective equipment for visitors.
