The organizing committee of the Dubai International Expo 2020 announced on Monday, through a statement, that it is studying the possibility of postponing the event for a year, after it was scheduled to start next October, against the backdrop of the Corona epidemic that hit a large number of invited countries.
The option to postpone the Expo has become a discussion and the Expo member states will approve any change in event dates, according to organizers during a digital meeting of the Executive Committee held to assess the impact of the Corona virus.
The final decision is expected to be taken after the approval of two-thirds of the member states, to be issued in the coming days.
“Although we are at our commitment to Expo 2020, many countries have suffered the effects of (Covid 19), so I expressed the need to postpone the launch of Expo 2020 in Dubai for a year,” the Minister of State for International Cooperation and Exhibition Director Rim Al Hashemi said in the statement.
Al-Hashemi confirmed that the UAE authorities “listened” to the recommendations of the countries, so the organizing committee was ready to “know the possibility of postponement,” adding that recent weeks have witnessed a review of the precautionary measures and the effect of the virus on the preparations for the Expo.
